Kiosk of Someone Else's Dreams

An outdoor computer kiosk from where a number of neighbourly connections were managed. These are a combination of recorded video, live audio and live electrical connections, testing possibilities at the juncture of the database, its "locations", and its live interpretation by various publics. .- December 6-9, 2007

A web browser (mozilla firefox) is used as the kiosk display and navigation environment. We used Firefox in fullscreen mode, and the new VLC plugin for video. The kiosk computer was part of a wireless LAN (local network) that also included 4 other computers, those in the apartments, and a laptop running Ubuntu as the webserver.

A "kiosk" with a touch-screen and video screen, connected to several neighbourhood audio and data streams, was set up for four days at the Bandra promenade. Multiple types of connections, as well as refusals to connect, took place over the period. The kiosk offered browsing through the video material, as well as live links to several locations. Relationships between live and recorded material, and the various contexts of people and their "neighbourliness", were brought into play.
